S4Y N0 2 CYB3R BULLY1NG

Below is a link to a video of a girl who killed herself because she was bullied:

This is a true story of a beautiful girl who had enough of the pain caused from bully. She took her step mum's car and drove into a tree and died. She felt she had no-one however what she didn’t realise was that she had her friends and family who loved her. Bulling can cause people to take an extreme action…
"Cyber-bullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.
It has to have a minor on both sides, if adults become involved, it is known as cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking. Adult cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking is NEVER called cyber-bullying.
Children have killed each other and committed suicide after having been involved in a cyber-bullying incident.
Often bullies set up a website or group on a social media website like Facebook and then ask other people to join in and comment about a person or images of them.
What can you do to stop it?

·         The best advice is to avoid the methods used by cyber-bullies.
·         Find the 'report abuse' or 'block sender' options on your favourite websites.
·         That means staying away from websites they use and blocking email addresses or mobile numbers that send nasty messages. Regularly check and clean your 'friends' lists on social networking sites too.
·         Changing your username may also help and don't give out personal details such as your mobile number, address or email online.
·         Protect your password too to keep your files and information safe.
·         You should also report the bullying to the people running the website, technology service or your mobile phone service provider.
·         Keep evidence - callers and mailers can be traced. But also remember that sites you've created and emails you've sent can be traced back to you months or years later too.
·         Tell an adult.

Overall bullying can affect everyone and anyone at any time. There are many more methods of bullying but because of the way technology has improved over the last couple of generations, cyber bullying has become one of the most popular ways to bully as well as the easiest. There is always someone to help, there is no need to be afraid of what people say and think.

Dealing with Bullying

Jonah Mowry, 14, posted this video on August 10, 2011. The boy who features in the video explains that he is being bullied for being a homosexual, and felt the need to tell about his experience on a video. He used placement cards to say his story and his video also included a slow, sad song by Sia called Breathe Me.

The video has over 10 million views and hundreds of video responses. This one is called “For Jonah Mowry What’s going on?” by Johnny Robinson who was also bullied for being gay. He tells him that he went through the same experiences but he is proud of his sexuality and that Jonah should not be worried about his future.

Bullies come in all shapes and sizes, and most of us have to deal with them at one point or another. However, dealing with bullies can sometimes be difficult. Bullying can be a serious problem,  in schools ,the workplace or on the internet
However there are many ways to deal with bullying and there are lots of different people you can talk to;

Halloween Horror Show

On Thursday 25th October, the events management students held a Halloween Fair at Cambridge Regional College. The Halloween Fair consisted of cakes, a fortune-teller, silent film and Halloween makeup done by the media makeup students.

 MMmmh Cakkeee!!

The event went really well, there was a great atmosphere and a good turnout – there were more people in there than ever before! Our overall aim for the event was to promote the student lounge and launch ourselves; we definitely achieved our aim as there were more people in there that had never been in there before.

Overall it was a very successful event considering it was our first one together, this was a great opportunity to learn from our mistakes and know what we had to do better in the future.

(With a big thank-you to the Media Make Up students...)
